CCD participates in a number of activities to serve the less fortunate, near and far. A few are listed here.

Deacons' benevolences

Each year, the Deacons administer the Benevolence donations to the church, distributing them to a carefully-chosen group of  Christian charities.

Star of the Sea

For years, CCD has had an especially close relationship with this Queens shelter for homeless and abused women, which guides its residents to new social and employment oppportunities.

Brown Bag Sunday

A week or two before Thanksgiving, the church youth distribute big, decorated brown bags to members of the congregation and neighborhood friends, and pick them  up, filled with imperishables to distribute to local food pantries.

Soup-er Bowl Sunday

On the day that all the world watches the Super Bowl, church youth organize a collection to enable local groups of disabled children to attend a special program at APEC, a nearby wildlife refuge and environmental learning center.

Prayer shawl ministry

Members of the church knit prayer shawls for distribution to neighbors in need of spiritual uplift and comfort.

Healing services

Periodically, short services are held in the sanctuary or chapel to pray for improved health and to anoint those who are suffering.

The Galilean service

Every summer, CCD holds its Sundy service on the shore of Little Neck Bay in the precincts of the Douglaston dock, providing a favorite event for members of the community at large.
